Kigali International Airport has been voted to 5th among African best airports .The ranking conducted by a renowned Canadian Aviation website, www.sleepinginairports.net, placed the airport on fith place based on overall airport experience as determined by voters in 2015 Airport Survey.

According to the website’s description, the fith place results from renovations which have left the airport far brighter, roomier and more efficient.

Another issue that brings the airport among top five is the capacity of the airport to accommodate up to 1,5 million passengers going in hand with excellent locally sourced coffee,free Wi-Fi,and cheery staff additional to its location close to the city centre.

The latter follows, Skytrax another renown consultancy in the UK that ranked Kigali International Airport the seventh in Africa last year on the basis of the provision of quality service.

Other airports on top listed by the Sleeping Airport Website include: Cape Town International Airport, South Africa (CPT) ,Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport, South Africa (JNB) ,Algiers Houari Boumediene International Airport, Algeria (ALG) ,Mauritius Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport and Mauritius (MRU) among others.

Sleeping Airports conducts an annual survey asking travelers to rate their airport experiences. Travelers are asked to rate their experience on factors such as the airport’s services, facilities, terminal cleanliness, customer service and comfort. These airport ratings, comments and reviews submitted throughout the year make up our annual Best and Worst Airports list.

Last year, Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority oversaw the completion of the $17m Kigali International Airport which increased the handling capacity to 1,500,000 passengers.

According to a statement from Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority (RCAA), the current 12 months project, on the airside of the same airport, expansion works are ongoing to contain more aircraft traffic. Another taxiway will be included for aircrafts to save time and reduce on burning of fuel as RCAA continues to ensure the enhancement of service provision, safety and security.
