Raila most preferred presidential candidate– Tifa poll

Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga would be elected president if elections were held today, a survey has shown.

The Tifa research released on Wednesday indicates that Raila is the most preferred presidential candidate with 39 per cent of respondents saying they would vote for him against 35 per cent who prefer Deputy President William Ruto.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka came a distant third with just two per cent of the respondents saying they would cast their vote in his favour at the August polls.

According to the poll, 14 per cent of respondents said they are undecided on who to vote for while one per cent said they would not vote.

While releasing the results, lead researcher Tom Wolf said Raila and his running mate Martha Karua would be voted for by 69 per cent of respondents in Nyanza while Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua would get 66 per cent support from South Rift.

Kalonzo enjoys the biggest support is in Lower Eastern where 15 per cent of respondents said they would vote for him and his running mate Andrew Sunkuli.

In the previous survey released on May 2, Ruto had a seven-point edge against Raila with 39 per cent of respondents saying they would have voted for him while 32 per cent said they preferred Raila.

The May results were from research conducted between 22-26 April, 2022.

It had a -+ 2.17 margin of error.

The April poll, however, pointed out that the gap between the two top contenders had narrowed since February this year.

In terms of regional popularity, the Azimio boss beat the DP as the most preferred presidential aspirant in Nairobi, Mombasa and Makueni counties.

The poll said Raila was ahead in Nairobi with 41 per cent against Ruto who came second with 26 per cent.

In Mombasa County, Raila was polled by 50 per cent of the respondents as their most preferred presidential aspirant while Ruto came second with 32 per cent. Some 18 per cent of respondents were undecided.

In Makueni, the Azimio boss led with 48 per cent followed by Kalonzo with 21 per cent while Ruto polled 18 per cent.
